Voyant#
Voyant Tools is a web-based text reading and analysis environment. It is a scholarly project that is designed to facilitate reading and interpretive practices for digital humanities students and scholars as well as for the general public.-About Voyant
If you are new to text analysis and want to see what is possible, Voyant is a good tool to start with.
Step 1: Create a Corpus#
There are four main ways of creating and using a corpus in Voyant (“corpus” is another word for a set of documents):
open an existing corpus (click on the “Open” button under the text box)
type or paste text into the main text box (this creates a corpus with one document)
type or paste one or more URLs into the main text box (one URL per line)
click the “Upload” button under the text box to use files from your computer
You can download texts from Project Gutenberg. The file formats that Voyant supports are: plain text, HTML and XML.
Step 2: Explore a Corpus#
Once you create a corpus you will arrive at the default “skin” or arrangement of tools.
